I have started a talk with a few others on what is happening in the bay, below is a reply I made to a comment and I feel it sums up my feelings on what is happening:
---------- Maybe im getting old, but where I grew up on Waiheke, all those years ago the island was wonderful ... than, when the fast boats kicked in in the late 90's it opened up the island to well everyone. We progressed, but it was kind of, progress and be damed, well thats what it felt like and we as a result lost alot of what made waiheke, what it was. Now im sure you might be thinking what has this got to do with Lyall Bay, well i think i am looking at it through the same eyes and the hope to not loose the feel of a place that i have well come to really love. I have alot of respect for what the surf club does and heck knows we need them. But if they need a new building, lets hope they do it by not destroying what is here now. And if they are allowed to go ahead with what they are planning who says it will not open the way for well, multi story hotels ect and well all sorts in the bay and I tell you I would not want to see that at all. You know a few years after I moved here, from memory i remember that we stopped infill housing being built in the bay along the water front. Lets make sure for Lyall Bay if we progress, we do it in a managed and thoughtful way so we do not loose the bay that myself and im sure alot of others be it people from greater Wellington or New Zealand love.
